Embellish and Manipulate

Milan is always the most elaborate and "fun" fashion week. It is it's identity; from Jeremy Scott who runs wild with pop arty collection to geniuses off fabric use and embellishment like Prada. Looking at everything over the week, embellishment is such a huge part of so much of the runway. I remember hearing Yasmin Sewell saying that everyone will wan't more embellished and textured garments, when asked about the future trends. She was so right, sequins feel so fresh, especially when paired with heavy tweedy or leather fabrics.

As well as what you can sew onto the fabric, clever manipulation was so so good. Fendi leading the way with some absolutely beautiful smocking and gathering. I love smocking to give shape and structure to garment, the use of it around neck of the Fendi blouse (above) is what I am going to try so hard to achieve in my next sewing ventures. The amazing dress at Jil Sander (top left) is such a pattern cutting dream, it reminds me of some examples in the Japanese pattern cutting book, pattern magic.
