Rankin

Inspiration for portraits.

Rankin's name is synonymous with interesting and creative portraits. The use of make up as paint and  make up in post production is really compelling. I love the use of graphic face obscuring and chopping of images. He has photographed everybody from celebrities to The Queen all with a touch of humour and lots of originality.

A lot of landmark campaigns have been shot by Rankin including Dove's Real Women. He is also co-founder of both Dazed and Confused and AnOther Magazine with Jefferson Hack. I am currently thinking about 90s inspiration a lot in terms of music and advertising, preparing for the next stage of our brand creation project at Uni. Rankin was very prolific in the 90's and goes along with the counter  pop area of the decade in his style. Having said this his use of celebrities brought him into the mainstream, I think this is why he was so successful.
