DIY: Raw Edges

So I know this is kind of an obvious thing in theory but I have tried this twice and the first time it didn't work so there is a definite knack. I fist saw these jean edges last year, they're so understated but just give an edge to an outfit.

Make sure you do this with your jeans on so you can keep checking the length they are.
Street Style Photo

You will need:
Scissors
Some Jeans
Tape Measure

1. Roll your jeans to were you usually do.
2. Turn this down one fold so the jeans are just folded up once. Check that the top of this fold is were you want the raw edge to be. Remember, you can always cut more off but you can't add it back on.

3. Use the tape measure to make sure that this fold is the same height all the way around before you cut. Stand up, smooth out your jeans and check the length again.
4. Cut the hem off following the folded line. Check the length in the mirror, trim to make the edge the same all the way around and rub the cut edge to fray it slightly (if you want to)
There you have your perfect raw edge! To get the perfect distressed hole- y knees just snip into the knees (or wherever you want the hole) then scrub it with some wire wool.

Broken Record

Coat - Asos Jumper - John Smedley's Trousers - Topshop Trainers- Nike@Office

So I know this is pretty much the same as the last outfit post but I had one of those wardrobe panic attacks were you can't think of anything to wear.

I bought these trainers about 2 hours before I took these pictures, I had to put them straight on! I must have been very influenced by all the fashion week street style I've absorbed that consist maybe 90% of trainers. It's funny because I am one of the least sporty people EVER but it is nice to have a pair of shoes that are insanely comfortable and look cool.

Shirt - Penguin Originals Coat - Topshop (old) Trousers - Topshop Shoes - Topshop (old) Bag - Asos

My coat and shoes are both about 2 years old but they just keep on rolling out of my wardrobe. I've mixed them with my two most trusted items, oversized white shirt and leather trousers.

Last night I went to watch London Grammar at Rock City in Nottingham. They were insanely good, Hannah's voice is absolutely stunning, maybe better live than on the album...

Vintage Coats and New Years

You all know what I mean, that fusty, charity shop smell that almost all vintage coats and clothes have, as if they have been stashed in an old wardrobe since the decade they were made. It can be especially bad with thick or furry coats as the smell gets within the fibers.
The best way to get it out, as I found with my new Sheepskin coat, is to have it dry cleaned then hang it in a well aired room (like a garage) with plenty of scent bags.

I spent my new year in a wind swept Abersoch, North Wales. I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and New Year,

DIY: Bernstock Speirs Veiled Beanie

A host of bloggers and celebrities have been seen in these beanies, but you can make one yourself for a fraction of the price (the real thing retails at £150)

You will need:
Beanie Hat
Milliner's net, about 1/2 a meter (I found mine in John Lewis)
Thread
Scissors
Pins
1. Cut open the seam at the top of the hat, but only just enough to thread the net through
2. Fold the net in half then bunch the top up to a point.

3. Turn the hat inside out and put the net up through the inside of the hat.
4. Pin the net in place and sew it tightly to the hat. Make sure
as little net as possible is sticking up on the inside of the hat.
5. Turn the hat the right way around. Try it on to see were the net is sticking up to much and use small stitches to fix it down. Keep trying it on as you do this.

6. Voilé! You have your very own designer hat

Jingle Bells

Yesterday was the first christmassy day I've had. I went to Birmingham Christmas shopping and stumbled into the Frankfurt market, 1 mile of pure Christmas!

It was black friday as well and Selfridge's had 10% off across the whole store and urban Outfitters had 20%, perfect day.

I have gone a little crazy for the tartan trend as I used to wear it a lot but now you can buy it everywhere so I am fully taking advantage.
